The 3OM Optomechatronics Group was founded in 2008 by Prof. Virgil-Florin Duma on an IDEAS Grant of The Romanian National Authority for Scientific Research (ANCS-UEFISCDI).

The Group is the core of an in-development Photonics Pole in Western Romania, and has been carrying out a number of research projects, focused on Optomechatronic devices and systems with a range of applications in biomedical imaging (especially Optical Coherence Tomography – OCT) and optical metrology for industry.

These projects include: IDEAS 1896, PCCA 1682, PTE 181, BG 297, PED1937 – with more than 2M Euro in funding, in the last decade.
